Info for a mystery im writing?
try Googling "incendiary baking FLOUR" instead of flower. Get better results with proper spelling. ;)
Reply:Flour (note spelling) will explode if it's 'atomized' in the air. This happens sometimes in grain elevators. If the air is full of flour and there's a spark, it can blow up the whole building!
There used to be an experiment we did in school. We'd take a cannister, like a flour cannister. We'd put a hole in the bottom, and a funnel in this hole with a hose attached to the bottom of the funnel beneath the bottom of a cannister. We'd put some flour in the funnel, about a tablespoon (it helps to let the flour sit on a radiator for a few hours to dry out). We'd put a lit candle inside the cannister and then put the lid on.
Now you blow through the hose and it blows the flour into the air inside the cannister. If it works right, there's a mild explosion that blows the top off the cannister and makes a nice big 'POP' noise.
