Art Project/Fake Water Question?

I have a project due for one of my college design courses, the assignment is to do a self portrait however we choose in any media. I chose to do a vase tipped on it's side on a collumn, I wanted to do fake water pouring out of the vase and down the side of the pillar, but i have never worked with that resin stuff before.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might do this? I could use suggestions for what types of product to use, how to do it, ect. I looked online and although I found lots of sites that talk about fake water (mostly silk flowers in a vase, ect) but nothing that had the "spilled water" effect.

Best answer to the most informative.

Art Project/Fake Water Question?
When using resin, you have to keep in mind it's a liquid right up until the moment it sets, so for a 3-dimensional piece like this, you'll have to build a mold to contain it. This will take a few steps, but might be worth it.

First, sculpt your "water" from sculptor's clay (it's waxy and can be re-used). Build a waterproof box to fit the sculpture as it lays on its side - you'll have to make 2 molds, both left and right (or top and bottom). Fill your mold with a Plaster of Paris mixture and set your sculpture in (after applying a mold release - get help with that). Let the plaster set. Repeat for the other side.

Remember you can't mold anything that won't come straight out of the mold without breaking the plaster. (Hint: if you put your hand in plaster %26amp; let it set, your hand would slip out if the fingers were straight, but not if you were making a circle with your finger %26amp; thumb... get it?)

You'll have 2 molds which, after applying the prescribed mold release, you'll fill with resin. Once the resin is cured, remove both parts %26amp; re-assemble them.

Complicated, but it's the only way I can think of right now to use resin. I wonder if there's something else that would work better? I'll think on it...
