I would like to make my own patches for my old jeans?

I am looking for free online patterns for this project. I want to make flowers, butterfly and other designs etc. I have a lot scrap material from other old clothes that have different textures, prints and designs.Then I would like to sew them on my favorite jeans. I know this may sound very retro. But I'm an older generation of jean wearers and thought my patched up jeans would be perfect to wear when I go camping and such. I would much appreciate any websites with free instruction to do so. thank you.

I don't know any websites, but it's very easy to do.



Iron a piece of fusible webbing to the back of the piece you will cut out. Then cut around your design. No need to leave any seam allowance. Peel off the paper backing from the webbing and iron the patch onto your jeans. Add some embroidery or a simple blanket stitch to pretty up the edges, and you are done!



Back in the day, we also used crocheted granny squares for some of the patches. You can skip the interfacing because it would show through. Just sew it on by hand using plenty of small stitches.

Reply:I wish I could show you, it would be so easy....but the technique you want is from quilting. It's called "hand applique". Quilters use this technique to sew appliques on quilts, but you can use the same technique on making a patch and using the "applique stitch to sew it on. Here's a web-page that shows how to make the applique(patch) and how to do the applique stitch. You might want to go to your local fabric store and ask if anybody there can show you the "applique stitch". It's way easier to show you than to try to figure out the web-page. Somebody in the store should know what the applique stitch is (be it an employee or customer). I hope I was able to help you out a little. Good luck and have fun!

Ps: You might want to use quilting thread, it's stronger than regular thread (its thicker %26amp; coated).
