I want to find a new hobby, maybe like gardening or building. Something that is outside, and preferably something reasonably priced. Any suggestions? If you have a suggestion, do you have any idea how I would get 'into' this thing? For Gardening I would just build a square/rectangle in my back-yard, and plot in it. (I would probably read up on gardening online before I started)
I'm just looking for someone to do with my free time. Gardening would seem interesting because growing flowers/fruits/vegetables seems interesting.
New hobbies...?
gardening is a great hobby. It can be as cheap or expensive as you want it to be. It gets you outside, which is good for the endorphin release and provides lots of excercise. My advice is to start with something very simple and fool proof.
Get a good gardening book that tells all the basics. Learn the difference between an annual and perrenial. Bulbs are usually very easy for a first time gardener. Try an elephant ear and some caladiums. They require some shade, some sun and they like to be watered, but they grow really fast once the heat of summer sets in. They will lend a 'tropical' atmosphere to the area in which they are planted.
Reply:Yeah, give it a go. Plants will grow on you. And everything else. I've found nothing else that is so relaxing and energizing at the same time.
Reply:Like Bert said, geocaching is a lot of fun. We enjoy that. It can be good exercise too. Flower or vegetable gardening is very satisfying if it grows like you want and the weather permits. You will need to know what type of soil you've got, what zone you are in, etc, and get some basics down.
Reply:Take a look at geocaching! It is fun to do alone or with groups of people, cheap to get into (all you need is a moderately priced GPS or a GPS enabled phone) and it's loads of fun.

Reply:This year I'm going to try biodynamic gardening. For me it is a great experiment in how to feed plants what they need, for my partner in gardening it is a project for him on how to build a support for a possible twelve foot tomatoe plant.
The internet offers some interesting pages on this subject.
Reply:Gardening (specially vegetables) is a great hobby. Relaxes your mind after a hard day and keeps you fit. As far as expenses are concerned, like many other things in life, it can be as cheap or expensive as you want it to be. You can start with a few hand tools and some seed and plants.
